If I sign up for ridesharing, do I have commit to 5 days a week?
No, the average carpooler shares a ride 3 times a week. But any number of days works – once a
week, twice or only in the event of bad weather or an emergency. If you want, you can also book one
trip at a time. Of course, the more you carpool, the more you enjoy the benefits –
savings,
less stress, greater productivity.

If I sign up for carpooling, do I have to carpool with the suggested candidates?
No, you are under no obligation. We simply provide the information you need to form a carpool.
Can I carpool if I don't have a car?
Sure. Our online ridematching service gives you the option of joining a carpool or vanpool as a
passenger only.
I have an irregular work schedule. Can I still carpool?
Yes. One of the great things about our online ridematching service is that
it helps you find other commuters with the same schedule as you. Plus, you have the option of
booking one trip at a time – either in advance or the same day you need it.

What happens if I have a doctor's appointment, errands to run or a child to take
to daycare or school?
Carpooling is a flexible arrangement between you and your fellow riders. You'll find it's relatively easy
to fit appointments, errands and other events into your carpool schedule if you're a little bit flexible.
For example, for your buddy's sake, try to schedule doctors' appointments on days when you're not
carpooling. If you have an off-site lunch meeting to get to, schedule it on a day that you are driving.
And, if you have a child to drop off at school, perhaps you can meet your carpool partner(s) at the
school, or at a Park & Ride lot nearby.

How can I be sure I'm with a safe driver or rider?
Call potential carpool partners and discuss driving safety. Before getting in a car with somebody, you
may want to meet the person to see if he or she is trustworthy. Company names for each commuter are
included on your online ridematch list, so you can phone the person's employer. If you're still unsure,
you could ask for some personal references. If it doesn't seem like a good fit for you, simply try one of
the other matches on your list.

What if I have to work late or have an emergency?
First, notify the other riders in your carpool or vanpool. It's important to do this right away. If you're the
driver that day, they will need time to make alternate arrangements. If you're a passenger, you can take
a cab home and get fully reimbursed through CommuterLink's
Guaranteed Ride Home program (limitations apply).

Why choose vanpooling?
Riding in a vanpool can save you a significant amount on commuting costs. In addition, it's a
comfortable way to travel, providing plenty of room for passengers. If you'd prefer not to drive and
you live in an area that's not immediately accessible by mass transit, a vanpool is an excellent solution.

First, we run ridematch reports and map the results to see if there are enough interested people in a
given area. If there are, we notify you. Next, we call all the candidates and set up a meeting. If the
group wants to go ahead with it, we'll all meet with the van provider to go over leasing and other
details.
